Hard work paying off

I think the best thing about having an uncertain economy is that it forces you to be paranoid and creative for survival. At these times, the best of us comes out. Here's what we've been doing lately.

We just finished our Internet Marketing and Online Payments Workshop. Compared to our past classes, we had a bigger class this time. I'm glad that the interest to learn more about e-commerce has increased greatly. As I usually ask students to post their work online for checking, I decided to create a dedicated blog for it.

The Congressional Oversight for the E-Commerce Law finally convened last May 18. I'm glad with all the developments happening in this area. Although it may be slow, its expected output will certainly have a great impact to the e-commerce community if done well. Check out the body's agenda in this article.

Today is the climax of the PC's for Public School Best Practices Awards. It is an honor to be a judge of this competition this year. The National Winners are:

 1. Best Computer Laboratory- Polangui General Comprehensive High School, Polangui, Albay (Region V)

 2. Best 'IT Best Learning' School- Tupi NHS, Tupi, South Cotabato (Regio XII)

 3. Best 'IT Community Center' School- Linabuan NHS, Linabuan, Aklan (Region VI)

 4. Best PCPS School- Zamboanga City NHS Main, Tetuan, Zamboanga City (Region IX)

 5. Special Award- Mauaque Resettlement HS, Mauaque, Pampanga (Region III)

I'm very happy to see Zamboanga City National High School Main in the winner's list as they are one of the few PCPS benefactors that immediately joined the Philippine Schools Cyberfair Project that I'm advocating for. Its theme for 2006 is Inspire & Unite! Projects this year should "shine the spotlight" on people, places, businesses and other things in their local community -- that serve to "inspire, motivate, and encourage positive change." We will be hitting the road soon to campaign for this competition.

Three projects will be reaching its full fruition soon. This includes the 1st Software Engineering Conference, Philippine Internet Review 2nd edition, and DigitalFilipino.com Club membership card program. Will be posting the details in the mailing list about this soon.

A new blog!

Yesterday, my website was finally fixed. You won't believe how nerve-wracked I get whenever my site goes haywire. I usually get this experience once a year. Nevertheless, I'm currently working on my site and hope this will be upgraded soon. I'm looking for a web development entity that has a cool content management system and who is looking for a website that they can showcase with their tool.

This morning, I was at DWBR where I got interviewed about the Cebu ICT 2005 event. I think that will be broadcasted around Wednesday or Thursday next week.

I just started a new blog that focuses entirely on the Philippine Schools Cyberfair. If you have time, please check it out at http://cyberfair.i.ph. I have big plans for that competition this year and all the help will be more than welcome.

Website Paranoia

This morning started quite bad as my site experienced a major error. It seems my MS-Access database is reaching its maximum already. As my site had minimal updates (where a file gets updated once a week), I always felt that I'm far from over with this scenario to happen.

Nevertheless, the site is now being fixed and hope that the as of May 6 update shall be posted online soon. On the good side, I really now have to re-think whether to retain the DigitalFilipino.com site or transition to PHP-based content management system or use a simple blog format.

Well I'm seriously thinking about it. Hmm..

Organizing my thoughts

At the start of this month, I decided to organize my blog. The biggest influence to it is John Maxwell's book titled, "Thinking for a Change". As a result, I started categorizing my blog content depending on its purpose. This way, no matter which one goes down, not all of my content will go away. (of course I would not want any of it to go down)

My oldest blog, http://digitalfilipino.blogspot.com, is now dedicated to reflective thinking, documenting the things I learned on a daily basis. This is no matter how big or small.

I now use my Yahoo 360 blog at http://360.yahoo.com/digitalfilipino for documenting my ideas. On a daily basis, an idea will struck me but rarely push for it unless the right time comes or when someone brings it up. With this blog, shared among friends, I do hope to be able to find collaborators who will take an interest in my ideas.

As far as this blog is concern, I'll be using this to document my activities as usual and update visitors on the things that I've been doing in DigitalFilipino.com.

Last month was very hectic as several activities came to a close with the Cyberfair awards and Requirements Management Workshop. Along with it came the preparation of the recently concluded iBlog event (http://www.iblogph.org) and the Cyberfair Winners E-Learning workshop.

This week, my confirmation as speaker for the APEC E-Business Training for Women SMEs just arrived. I've been supporting this event for the past three years and look forward to this July training. Those of you interested can get more info at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/digitalfilipino/message/14206.
